The author points out that the preponderance of US material in the form of books and other media results in a biased and underinformed view of the Canadian contribution to the Allied victory. The reality is that this is true for many of the Commonwealth and smaller participating countries. The evidence for this being the small number of books available to these countries documenting thier contribution. Overall I found the book well written, informative and containing a good mix of command decisions and man on the ground experiences, which help address the Canadian role in WW2. I look forward to reading his other books that cover the Canadian leading up to this book

Mark Zuehlke has done another masterful, well-researched and written book on the Unknown Battles of the Canadian 1st Army for The Mass-Wahl and Reichswald Forest from December 1944-March 1945 that cost the 1st Canadian Army 20,000 Battle Casualties and U.S Army nearly 350,000 Battle Casualties with 240,000 Battle Casualties in the "Rhineland Campaign" or "Siegfried Line Campaign" and 105,000 Battle Casualties in the "Ardennes-Alsace Campaign" or "Battle of the Bulge". Also, the British and Canadian 21st Army Group suffered 65,000 Battle Casualties and the French 1st Army suffered 45,000 Battle Casualties from September 15, 1944 to March 21, 1945! Publishers, Authors and Historians are finally starting to realize that Readers are "somewhat bored" with Thousands of Books on D-Day, Arnhem, The 1st 10 Days of The Battle of The Bulge and Remagen and want to read more about "Unknown Battles" that took the Majority of Battle Casualties for the U.S, British, Canadian and French Armies and The Bloodiest Campaign and Battles for the Western Allies in the Battle of the German Westwall, The Netherlands, Belgium, Lorraine and Alsace, France in World War II during The Rhineland Campaign or Battle of Germany from September 1944 to March 1945! The U.S Army, alone, took 240,000 Battle Casualties from September 15, 1944 to March 21, 1945 or 3 times as many Battle Casualties as The Battle of The Bulge with 81,000 Battle Casualties 2 1/2 times as many Battle Casualties 105,000 Battle Casualties for the Ardennes-Alsace Campaign if you include the Operation Nordwind, The Unknown Battles of Lorraine, Alsace, The Saar-Palatinate, Siegfried Line and Upper Rhine in Northeastern France where the U.S 7th Army had 65,000 Battle Casualties in Southern Lorraine, Alsace, the Siegfried Line and Operation Nordwind alone from September 15, 1944 to March 21, 1945, the U.S 3rd Army had 50,000 Battle Casualties in Lorraine from September 1944 to March 1945 and the U.S 6th Army Group sustained 110,000 Battle Casualties in The Rhineland Campaign in Southern and Eastern Lorraine and Alsace with 65,000 in the U.S 7th Army and 45,000 in the 1st French Army in the Fall and Winter of 1944 and 1945! So, Publishers, Authors and Researchers should continue to do Exhaustive Research, Writing and Publishing of The Battles of The Schedlt Estuary, The Maas-Wahl Rivers (minus more than a sub-chapter synopsis of The Battle for Arnhem), The Siegfried Line and Roer River, The Battle of Lorraine and The Battle of Alsace from September 1944 to March 1945 or the "Campaign for The Rhine River" which took almost 50% of All Battle Casualties taken by the United States, British, Canadian and French and Commonwealth Countries from D-Day June 6, 1944 to V-E Day May 8, 1945 with only 1 sub-chapter for Arnhem, The 1st 10 Days of The Battle of The Bulge (I was thrilled that Rickard in "Advance and Destroy" and Bergstrom in "The Ardennes" researched and wrote large portions of Their Books on The Battle of The Bulge from December 27, 1944 to January 25, 1945 where the Americans suffered 55% of The Battle Casualties incurred during The Entire Ardennes Battle clearing the Germans from Belgiam). So, Highly Detailed Books on the Campaigns of the British 21st Army Group in The Scheldte Estuary, The Maas-Wahl Rivers, Roer River and The Siegfried Line and Rhineland and the U.S 6th Army Group in Alsace and Southern and Eastern Lorraine, The Vosges Mountains and Saar-Palatinate from September 15, 1944 to March 21, 1945 always sell well and are greatly appreciated when Military Historians begin to take a look at the Bloody Unknown Battles of the Fall and Winter of 1944 to 1945 where the Western Allies suffered over 450,000 Battle Casualties! Instead of more and more Books and Documentaries about Arnhem and the 1st 10 Days of the Battle of the Bulge which are getting to be repetitive and boring except for Christer Bergstrom's Gem on the "Ardennes: Battle of the Bulge" which had a "Dearth of New Material" on clearing the Bulge where 55,000 of the 80,896 Battle Casualties were taken from December 27, 1944 to January 25, 1945. Who would know that during 2nd 14 Calender Days of the Battle of the Bulge from December 30, 1944 to January 12, 1945, the U.S 1st and 3rd Armies took more Battle Casualties during the heavily re-hashed first two weeks of the Battle of the Bulge from December 16, 1944 to December 29, 1944.
