I liked the book very much. That does not mean it is an easy reader. You must read this book very carefully as Jews in Israel are religious , secular, liberal, left of center, very left of center, right wing, more right wing, extreme right wing.Israel is a very small country. Jews lived in Israel for many centuries, before Islam was born in the seventh century A.D.Christians live in Israel, throughout Israel. They live in the Galilee and in all of Israel. This is a history of people who claim that Israel is theirs and not anyone else's. There are so many ways. of thinking politically that there is not one way for the Jews to deal with issues of religion, policy. The Arabs have their way of thinking and acting. Arabs who lived in Israel before the state was proclaimed , had lived in Palestine for centuries and would like to have the whole land. There are Jews who also would like to have the whole, small state. There is no peace treaty as the divisions , the way of thinking in both communities is not uniform. For now, the Israeli Jews have their piece of land. The Arabs, who call themselves Palestinians , live in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The Palestinians are divided and there is the issue of which Palestinians have control. There is no solution at this time and for now, live the way you are now. You are not ready to have a peace treaty when you both want the whole of the Land.
Micah Goodman writes with succinct and clear prose. He captures the tensions within Israeli and Palestinian society, and how they have changed over the decades since the founding of Israel. A brilliant read, clarifying the issues that make even a partial resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict hard to achieve.
This is outside-the-box thinking at its best. The author proffers a new way of thinking about how to de-escalate the conflict in a practical way that I never previously considered. This is a must-read for anyone concerned about the conflict, including Palestinians, Israelis, Jews and Muslims.
What has been happening in Israel can help the reader understand the US political scene, or for that matter what is taking place in many other places. Insightful and challenging.
An interesting analysis
Informative and thought provoking. It makes one think, without giving definite answers. Makes one aware of huge problems and not great answers.
Well written, fascinating context, productive viewpoint
Excellent
